DMP arrests 498 in 24-hour crackdown in Dhaka
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 498 people in a 24-hour drive across the capital, filing 47 cases and recovering firearms, ammunition, drugs and other items, police said on Friday (August 21).
The arrests were made during separate operations conducted by DMP units and police stations across Dhaka, according to a statement issued by the DMP Media and Public Relations Division.
The Mirpur division recorded the highest number of arrests at 131, followed by Wari with 91, Uttara 59, Tejgaon 51, Motijheel 48, Gulshan 45, Ramna 36 and Lalbagh 31. Four people were arrested by the Detective Branch and two by the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit.
Police recovered two locally made pipe guns and two rounds of ammunition during the operations. They also seized 39 rounds of ammunition for Chinese rifles kept in four magazines.
The drug haul included 10,287 yaba tablets, 1.15 kg of cannabis and 70 bottles of Skaf.
Other seized items included a knife, a pair of scissors, part of a blade, five mobile phones, a wristwatch, Tk 499,870 in cash, 156 playing cards, a truck, a motorcycle and a computer CPU.
Legal proceedings against the arrested individuals are underway, the DMP said.
