DMP arrests 511 in 24-hour Dhaka crackdown, files 49 cases

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 511 people and filed 49 cases during a 24-hour security and crime crackdown across the capital, police said Sunday (August 16).

The arrests were made during regular operations conducted across different police divisions and detective units, DMP Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) Niaz Mehedi said.

The arrested included 39 people from Ramna Division, 33 from Lalbagh, 51 from Wari, 62 from Motijheel, 72 from Tejgaon, 126 from Mirpur, 50 from Gulshan, 67 from Uttara and 11 from the Detective Branch.

During the operations, police seized two foreign-made pistols, three magazines and 15 rounds of ammunition.

The raids also led to the recovery of 1,403 yaba tablets, 98.565 kilograms of cannabis, one gram of heroin and four bottles of foreign liquor, according to the DMP.

Police additionally recovered a computer, six mobile phones, 80 SIM cards from different operators and ATM cards from seven banks.

The DMP said the weapons, drugs and other items were recovered during raids in different areas under the capital’s police stations.

Legal proceedings against the arrested individuals are underway, police said.
