DMP arrests 544, files 62 cases in 24 hours

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) have arrested 544 people in special operations across the capital over the past 24 hours, filing 62 cases on various charges. Police also seized a large quantity of drugs and locally made weapons during the operations.

DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) Md Akter Hossain disclosed the information on Friday (November 6).

He said the Mirpur division recorded the highest number of arrests, with 144 people detained. Another 95 were arrested in Wari, 59 in Tejgaon, 55 in Gulshan, 49 in Uttara, 44 in Motijheel, 42 in Lalbagh and 41 in Ramna. The SRU-2 and Detective Branch jointly arrested 13 more people.

The seized items included 540 grams of cannabis, 6,258 yaba pills, 4.2 grams of heroin, four packets of heroin, 37 pathedrine injections, two knives and two cutters.

According to the DMP, the drugs and other evidence were recovered during operations in different police station areas of the capital on Thursday (November 5). A total of 544 people were arrested in connection with various allegations.

Legal proceedings against those arrested are under way.
