DMP arrests 546 in 24-hour Dhaka crackdown

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 546 people and filed 61 cases during a 24-hour anti-crime operation across the capital, police said Thursday (September 17).

DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) Md Akter Hossain said the arrests were made during drives conducted in different parts of the city.

The highest number of arrests was recorded in the Mirpur division with 152, followed by Wari with 86, Tejgaon 74, Motijheel 65, Gulshan 49, Ramna 36, Uttara 35, Lalbagh 30 and the Detective Branch (DB) 19.

Police recovered a foreign-made pistol, a magazine and nine rounds of ammunition, along with 1.96kg of cannabis, 13,870 yaba tablets, 13.8 grams of heroin and 210 bottles of Eskuf, a codeine-based cough syrup.

Other seized items included a toy pistol with a magazine, a walkie-talkie, handcuffs, two DB jackets, an autorickshaw, three motorcycles, 14 mobile phones, two spent bullet casings, a piece of foil paper and Tk 13,300 in cash.

Three victims were also rescued during the operation, according to the DMP.

Police said legal proceedings against the arrested individuals are underway.
