DMP arrests 577 in 24-hour Dhaka crime crackdown

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 577 people in a 24-hour anti-crime drive across the capital, filing 40 cases during the operation, police said on Wednesday (September 9).

The arrests were made across the city’s police divisions, with the highest number recorded in Mirpur at 143, followed by Tejgaon with 114 and Wari with 80. Motijheel accounted for 68 arrests, while Lalbagh had 42, Uttara 42, Ramna 36, Gulshan 39 and the Detective Branch 13.

Police said they recovered two Chinese axes, two switchblades, a knife, a dagger and six cocktails during the operation.

The drive also resulted in the seizure of 32.655 kg of cannabis, 623 yaba tablets and 7 grams of heroin.

Among other items recovered were two private cars, an autorickshaw, seven laptops, 67 mobile phones, 484 SIM cards from various operators, 27 Visa cards and four electronic chips.

The DMP said the suspects were arrested from different police station areas along with the seized weapons, drugs and other items. Legal proceedings against those arrested are underway.
