DMP arrests 629 in 24-hour drive, 50 cases filed

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 629 people in a 24-hour anti-crime drive across the capital, while 50 cases were filed over various allegations, police said Sunday (September 13).

DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) Md Akter Hossain said the arrests were made during regular operations conducted by different police units across the city.

According to DMP data, the arrests included 40 in Ramna, 42 in Lalbagh, 65 in Wari, 68 in Motijheel, 95 in Tejgaon, 203 in Mirpur, 55 in Gulshan, 49 in Uttara and 12 by the Detective Branch.

Police said the operation led to the recovery of 7.965 kg of cannabis, 211 yaba tablets and 106 grams of heroin. They also seized a foreign-made pistol, a short gun, an air gun, one round of ammunition, a magazine, a spent cartridge and 32 Red Ball cartridges.

Other seized items included 55 mobile phones, three knives, two steel blades, a machete, three motorcycles, a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and Tk18,220 in cash, among other items.

Legal proceedings against the arrested individuals are underway, the DMP said.
