DMP bans fireworks and sky lanterns during Christmas

Dhaka Metropolitan Police, DMP, has imposed a ban on fireworks, firecrackers, sky lanterns and gas balloons to mark Christmas, the largest religious festival of the Christian community.

The ban was announced in a public notice signed by DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md Sajjat Ali on Wednesday.

According to the notice, Christmas will be celebrated on December 25. To ensure that the festival is observed in a dignified and festive manner, and exercising powers under Section 28 of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ordinance, all types of fireworks, firecrackers, sky lanterns and gas balloons are prohibited across the Dhaka metropolitan area from 6:00 pm on December 24 to 6:00 am on December 26.

The notice also said the DMP seeks the overall cooperation of city residents to ensure that Christmas is celebrated smoothly and safely.
