DMP bans rallies, processions in parts of capital over parliament session

To ensure the smooth conduct of the third session of the 13th Parliament, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has banned the carrying of all types of arms and explosives, as well as meetings, rallies, processions and demonstrations in and around the Parliament building in the capital.

This information was conveyed in a public notification signed by Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed on Tuesday, August 25.

The notification stated that the third session of the 13th Parliament will commence on August 27. The ban has been imposed to maintain peace and order in the Shere Bangla Nagar area surrounding the Parliament building to ensure the smooth conduct of the session.

According to the ban, from 12am on Wednesday, August 26, until further notice, the carrying of all types of arms, explosives, other harmful and polluting substances, as well as any kind of assembly, rally, procession and demonstration, will be prohibited in the area.

The areas under the ban include: from Mahakhali crossing on Mymensingh Road to the old airport and up to Banglamotor crossing; from the western end of Banglamotor Link Road to the Circle Fountain on Hotel Sonargaon Road; from the eastern end of Panthapath to Farmgate via the Green Road intersection; and from Shyamoli Mor on Mirpur Road to the intersection of Dhanmondi-16 road.

Additionally, from the Rokeya Sarani intersection to the old 9th Division (aircraft) crossing via Bijoy Sarani, Tourism Crossing, from the eastern end of Indira Road to the western end of Manik Mia Avenue, the reserved area of the Parliament building, and all roads and alleys within these boundaries will also be under the ban.

The notification further stated that the order will remain in force until the conclusion of the third session of the 13th Parliament.
