Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Habibur Rahman has warned that if the agitators of quota reform movement try to deteriorate the law-and-order situation not obeying the court order, they will be suppressed with strong hands.

He said this in response to a question from reporters at a press briefing about the security measures taken by the DMP on the occasion of the holy Ashura celebration and Tazia procession at Hossaini Dalan Imambara in the capital on Monday (July 15).

The DMP commissioner said, “The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has imposed a one-month stay on the High Court verdict on the quota system. Quota reform is entirely a matter of court. It is the absolute duty of every citizen to respect and obey the court orders. We are obliged to obey the rules of the court. Therefore, the police will conduct all the activities with respect to the court. Anyone who commits or intends to commit any kind of disorder that violates law and order will be dealt with sternly.”

The commissioner said all kinds of security measures have been taken to ensure security to the Tajia procession on July 17.
