DMP cracks down on black smoke, 915 cases filed in July

The Traffic Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) filed 915 cases in July against vehicles emitting excessive black smoke in the capital. Most cases were filed in the Motijheel Traffic Division.

DMP spokesperson Additional Deputy Commissioner Niaz Mehedi confirmed the matter on Tuesday, August 11.

DMP said regular drives are being conducted in various areas of the capital to reduce air pollution and curb excessive black smoke emission from vehicles. As part of this, legal action was taken against polluting vehicles throughout the month.

In July, these drives were conducted in various areas under DMP's eight traffic divisions. Vehicles emitting black smoke beyond permissible limits were identified and cases were filed.

According to the data, the highest number of cases among the eight traffic divisions was in the Motijheel area, where 354 cases were filed over black smoke emissions.

DMP said such drives will continue to control environmental pollution in the capital, with regular legal action against vehicles emitting excessive black smoke.
