DMP directs strengthening of block checks at capital’s entry points

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed has directed police members to be more active in their respective responsibilities to curb crime and keep the law and order situation in the capital normal. At the same time, he has directed further strengthening of security measures including block checks at important entry points and sensitive areas of Dhaka.

The DMP commissioner gave these directives to senior officials at the monthly crime review meeting for August held in the conference room of DMP headquarters on Monday morning (September 14). The overall law and order situation in the capital, the nature of crimes and various steps taken by the police to control them were discussed at the meeting.

Mosleh Uddin Ahmed said CTTC, DB and thana police must work through mutual coordination to prevent crime. Police activities must be ensured by specifically distributing responsibilities in every area so that no security gap or vacuum in performing duties is created anywhere.

The DMP commissioner also attached importance to preserving information of guests of various residential and commercial hotels in the capital. He directed the establishment of effective measures so that information of guests can be regularly collected from hotel authorities and obtained quickly when needed.

He said surveillance must be increased at the entry points of the capital so that criminals from different areas of the country do not get the opportunity to come to Dhaka and commit crimes. Along with conducting block checks in important areas, the movements of suspicious persons must be monitored in accordance with the law. He emphasized preventing crime in advance through collection and analysis of intelligence information alongside taking action after crimes occur.

At the meeting, police officers of various levels of DMP were awarded for playing a special role in maintaining law and order, controlling crime and ensuring public safety in the capital during August. Additional police commissioners, joint commissioners, deputy commissioners, additional deputy commissioners, assistant commissioners and officers of various departments of DMP as well as officers-in-charge of all thanas were present at the programme.
