Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has imposed special traffic restrictions in and around Bangabhaban ahead of the oath-taking ceremony of president-elect Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Friday (August 21).

The restrictions will remain in effect from 3pm to 9pm to ensure smooth movement of guests attending the ceremony.

During this period, regular traffic will be barred from the road stretching from the Alico Gap at Shapla Chattar in Motijheel through the Dilkusha commercial area to Bangabhaban Road and Rajuk Crossing.

Buses travelling from Shapla Chattar and Dainik Bangla towards Rajuk and Gulistan have been asked to use alternative routes via Dainik Bangla, UBL and Press Club. Commercial vehicles will not be allowed to enter Rajuk-bound roads from Dainik Bangla.

Vehicles coming from the Hanif Flyover will not be allowed to make a U-turn at Zero Point. They have been advised to proceed via Fulbaria or UBL Crossing towards Dainik Bangla and Shapla Chattar. An alternative route through Zero Point, UBL Crossing, Nightingale Crossing and Fakirapul Crossing to Ittefaq Road has also been suggested.

Mirza Fakhrul is scheduled to take oath as the country’s 23rd president at 7:30pm at Bangabhaban. The ceremony is expected to be attended by the outgoing president, prime minister, speaker of parliament, chief justice and other prominent local and foreign guests.

Vehicles carrying invited guests will remain exempt from the restrictions.

The DMP has urged commuters to avoid the affected roads during the restricted period and use alternative routes. The police also apologised for any inconvenience caused by the temporary traffic measures.
