DMP issues special guidelines for Janmashtami celebrations

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has urged the public to avoid certain roads in Dhaka between 3.00pm and 5.00pm on Saturday (16 August) for Janmashtami, the Hindu festival celebrating the birthday of Lord Krishna.

The request was issued in a press release signed by Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md Sajjat Ali.

Janmashtami Procession Route: The procession will start from Sri Sri Dhakeshwari National Temple and pass through Palashi Bazar, Jagannath Hall, Central Shaheed Minar, Doel Chattar, High Court, Bangabazar, Dhaka South City Corporation building, Golap Shah Mazar, Gulistan Mor, Nawabpur Road, Rai Saheb Bazar Mor, and will conclude at Bahadur Shah Park.

The press release asks the public to follow these instructions:
1) Do not park any vehicles along the procession route.
2) Avoid using loud PA or sound systems.
3) Participants must join the procession at the starting point; joining midway is not allowed.
4) For security, items such as handbags, trolleys, large vanity bags, bundles, weapons, scissors, corrosive liquids, bread, diyas, gas lighters, and other dangerous items are not allowed in the procession.
5) Do not throw fruits or other objects along the route.
6) Do not stand unnecessarily on the roads or create obstacles during the procession.
7) Immediately report any suspicious person or object to the nearest police.
8) Follow the instructions of volunteers and law enforcement personnel during the procession.
9) Cooperate with police managing barricades, pickets, and arches.
Residents are requested to use alternative routes as directed by the police.

The DMP seeks full cooperation from the public to ensure the Janmashtami procession is celebrated with proper religious respect and a festive atmosphere.
