The Traffic Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police has introduced an AI-driven automated case filing system aimed at restoring discipline on the city’s roads.

As part of the initiative, modern traffic signal lights and AI-enabled CCTV cameras have been installed at several key intersections in the capital. The new system began operations on Thursday (May 7), officials said.

Under the system, traffic violations are automatically detected through video and image capture by surveillance cameras. The system then processes the vehicle’s number plate and generates e-cases without manual intervention, with violation notices sent directly to the owner via SMS.

According to police sources, AI-enabled cameras have been installed at major points including Shahbagh, Intercontinental intersection, Banglamotor, Karwan Bazar, Bijoy Sarani, and along the Airport Road corridor.

Violations such as crossing red signals, lane discipline breaches, and obstruction of designated traffic lanes are being automatically identified and recorded by the system.

DMP Traffic Division Additional Commissioner Md. Anisur Rahman confirmed that automated enforcement has officially started from Thursday morning, with violations now being digitally recorded and processed in real time.

He added that offenders will receive official notices through postal services as well, and failure to pay fines within the stipulated period may lead to legal action, including summons or arrest warrants under existing laws.

Officials say the initiative aims to strengthen enforcement, reduce manual intervention, and improve overall traffic discipline in Dhaka city.
