DMP launches special drive against noise pollution in capital

The Traffic Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has launched a special drive against vehicles using illegal hydraulic horns, unauthorised hooters and noise-making devices to control noise pollution and raise public awareness on the roads in the capital.

On Tuesday (July 21) morning, DMP Additional Police Commissioner (Traffic) Md Anisur Rahman conducted a drive in the Manik Mia Avenue area adjacent to the Parliament building.

During the drive, necessary measures were taken against the use of illegal hydraulic horns, unauthorised hooters and noise-making equipment in various vehicles. Drivers and owners were urged to refrain from unnecessary honking and were made aware of the health and environmental hazards of noise pollution.

Additional Police Commissioner (Traffic) Md Anisur Rahman said noise pollution is a major threat to public health, the environment and urban life. Therefore, under the DMP's initiative, a week-long special drive is being conducted to control noise pollution in the capital.

He called on all drivers and owners of vehicles plying the roads to abide by the law and refrain from unnecessary honking.

DMP's Traffic Division said such anti-noise pollution drives will continue to ensure a people-friendly, safe and disciplined traffic system in the capital.
