DMP orders removal of bus counters across Dhaka within 7 days

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has ordered the removal of all inter-district bus counters across the city, except at the designated terminals of Gabtoli, Mohakhali and Sayedabad, within seven working days.

The directive was issued in a public notice signed by Acting Commissioner Md Sarwar on Sunday night (April 5).

The move aims to ease traffic congestion, modernise traffic management, and improve urban services by eliminating unauthorised bus counters operating without route permits.

DMP said such counters have been causing severe disruption by occupying roads for parking, passenger boarding, and related activities, contributing to traffic jams even at night.

Operators have been asked to relocate or remove existing counters outside the three designated terminals within the deadline.

Authorities warned that failure to comply will lead to legal action under the Road Transport Act, 2018, including mobile court operations, fines, imprisonment, cancellation of route permits, and seizure of equipment.
