DMP reimposes ban on rallies, gatherings in High Court area
To maintain law and order in Dhaka, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has once again imposed a ban on all kinds of rallies and public gatherings in and around the High Court area, including the vicinity of the Chief Justice's official residence.
The directive was issued through a public notice signed by DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjad Ali on Sunday (July 13).
According to the notice, under Section 29 of the DMP Ordinance, 1976, from Monday (July 14) until further notice, all forms of assemblies, rallies, processions, and demonstrations will be prohibited in front of the Chief Justice’s official residence, Judges' Residence, Judges’ Complex, the Supreme Court's main gate, the Mazar gate, the mosque gate, the entrances to International Crimes Tribunals 1 and 2, and the Judicial Administration Training Institute.
The notice further urged concerned parties not to block roads under the pretext of protest or demands, as such actions disrupt traffic and public movement.
Previously, on June 14, the DMP had imposed a similar ban in the High Court area, and on May 26, restrictions were enforced near the Secretariat and Jamuna area.
This move is part of an ongoing initiative by law enforcement agencies to gradually limit public gatherings near sensitive government installations and key administrative areas.
