DMP traffic alert marking Tarique Rahman's return
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has issued a detailed public traffic advisory, urging city residents to avoid several key roads and use alternative routes during the return of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.
The instructions were issued through a public circular signed by DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md Sajjat Ali on Wednesday (December 24).
According to the circular, Tarique Rahman is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka at 11:55am on December 25. He will travel from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport via the Purbachal Expressway (300 Feet), then proceed to Evercare Hospital before heading to his residence in Gulshan.
The DMP has advised motorists to avoid the 36 July (Purbachal) Expressway from Mohakhali to Abdullahpur and from Kuril to Mandal between 4:00am and 10:00pm on December 25, and to use alternative routes instead.
Alternative routes suggested by DMP:
- Vehicles may travel via Abdullahpur–Kamarpara–Dhaur Bridge–Panchabati–Mirpur Beribandh–Gabtoli.
- Residents of Uttara and Mirpur have been advised to avoid the Airport Road and use routes via House Building–Jamjam Tower–Sector 12 canal road–Uttara North Metro Station–Uttara Center Station–Mirpur DOHS, or via Uttara Center Station–Sector 18–Panchabati–Mirpur Beribandh.
- Passengers from Gulshan, Badda and Pragati Sarani areas have been asked to use Gulshan-1/Police Plaza–Amtoli–Mohakhali instead of Kakoli, Gulshan-2 and Kamal Ataturk Avenue.
- Vehicles bound for Mymensingh and Tangail from Mohakhali Bus Terminal should use the Mirpur–Gabtoli route.
- Vehicles coming from Kanchan Bridge via the Purbachal Expressway may turn left at the Mangol point and pass through Bashundhara Residential Area (M Block, beside Swadesh Properties Ltd) to reach Madani Avenue.
- Vehicles from Tejgaon, Mirpur and surrounding areas may travel to Uttara via Mirpur DOHS and roads beneath the metro rail.
- Passengers may use Dhaka–Joydebpur commuter trains as an alternative.
The DMP has requested Hajj pilgrims and outbound international passengers to leave home well in advance when travelling to the airport. Residents of Mirpur and Uttara have been encouraged to use the metro rail.
Those welcoming Tarique Rahman have been asked not to carry bags, sticks or similar items. They have also been instructed not to join the convoy with any vehicles and not to use motorcycles on the Airport Road or between Banani and Gulshan, or ride through crowds on motorcycles.
Emergency service vehicles, including ambulances and fire service units, will remain exempt from these restrictions.
The police further said outbound passengers must carry air tickets and should not be accompanied by others. Motorists have also been requested to avoid the New Market–Gulshan-2 route in both directions.
The DMP appealed to all city residents to cooperate fully and follow the instructions to reduce inconvenience and ensure public safety during the programme.
