Fearing a rise in dengue risk during the upcoming monsoon, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has launched a special mosquito control programme in the city’s schools.

Under the initiative titled “Clean Schools, No Mosquitoes”, regular mosquito eradication activities will be carried out in 536 schools across the city.

The programme was inaugurated at Dhaka Residential Model School and College on Saturday (March 28) by DNCC Administrator Shafiqul Islam Khan Milton.

Speaking at the event, Milton said the initiative aims to protect students’ health as they return to classrooms after the long holiday, noting that mosquito breeding sites inside and around schools will be regularly treated with insecticides.

He added that any irregularities or complaints will be dealt with strictly, and the zero-tolerance policy on dengue control will be fully enforced.
