DNCC official suspended over alleged bribe offer to administrator
An official of the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has been suspended following allegations that he attempted to bribe a senior administrator in exchange for a job appointment.
Mizanur Rahman, an administrative officer from DNCC Region-1, was suspended on September 8, though the matter only came to light on Tuesday. DNCC authorities confirmed that a departmental case has been initiated against him, citing misconduct, negligence, inefficiency, and involvement in alleged corruption.
According to an office order signed by DNCC Secretary Md Mamun-ul-Hasan, Mizanur has been removed from active duty under service rules. However, he will continue to receive a food allowance during the suspension.
The controversy centers around a recent wave of appointments within the city corporation, where several employees were promoted to the post of deputy tax officer, a Grade-9 position. Notably, some appointees came from Grades 14 to 16, sparking internal competition and scrutiny.
Sources within the DNCC claim that Mizanur, who had shown interest in the post, sent a message via WhatsApp to Administrator Mohammad Azaz, allegedly offering Tk 100,000 as a “gift” in exchange for securing the appointment.
When contacted, Mizanur Rahman acknowledged his suspension but claimed ignorance about the specific reasons. Asked directly whether he had offered a bribe, he declined to respond.
A senior DNCC official, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed that an internal inquiry is underway.
