DNCC sets 12-hour deadline for removing sacrificial animal waste
Dhaka North City Corporation has announced that it will remove sacrificial animal waste within 12 hours of Eid-ul-Azha prayers. Over 700 vehicles and 16,000 cleaning staff will be deployed for the massive operation.
Administrator Md Shafiqul Islam Khan made the announcement at a views-exchange meeting on sacrificial animal waste management at the Nagar Bhaban in Gulshan on Tuesday, May 26.
"We have taken all-out preparations to remove sacrificial animal waste within the government's announced 12-hour deadline and gift a clean environment to city dwellers. Insha Allah, we will be able to complete waste removal in DNCC area before the government deadline," he said.
According to the DNCC press release, 16.30 lakh polybags have already been distributed among city dwellers. To ensure a germ-free and odour-free environment after sacrifice, 3,600 sacks of bleaching powder, 1,348 cans of phenyl and 3,900 cans of Savlon have been distributed. Awareness campaigns including loudspeaker announcements, digital billboard displays, distribution of 50,000 leaflets and mobile SMS are ongoing. Mosques imams are also being engaged to spread awareness during Juma sermons.
DNCC Chief Executive Officer Muhammad Asaduzzaman, Chief Waste Management Officer Commodore Mohammad Humayun Kabir, Chief Health Officer Brigadier General Imrul Kayes Chowdhury and Chief Engineer Brigadier General Syed Rokibul Hasan were present at the meeting.
Local Government State Minister Mir Shah Alam also urged citizens to cooperate in keeping drainage systems functional in case of waterlogging due to rain.
