The 'Mrityunjayee Prangan' in Bijoy Sarani will be cleaned and a Bijoy (Victory) and July Monument will be installed, said Dhaka North City Corporation Administrator Mohammad Azaz.

He told Views Bangladesh: "This place is currently a ruin. After cleaning it, a Victory Monument will be built here. Many other things will be installed as well. That is why the place is being cleaned."

The 'Mrityunjayee Prangan' was built in 2023 on Bijoy Sarani in the capital as a symbol of respect for Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. A sculpture of Bangabandhu was installed in the center of the prangan, surrounded by seven walls. The walls depicted the history of Bangladesh, starting from the Language Movement, the Six-Point Movement, the Great Liberation War and independent Bangladesh, through various images and messages.

After the fall of the Awami League government on August 5 last year, the angry crowd demolished the statue of Bangabandhu on that day.

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) on Friday morning started the work of removing the rest of the installation. Seven walls of the prangan were completely removed around 10am.

The work of removing this wall began without any official announcement from the city corporation. When the pictures of this work were spread on social media, netizens started criticizing it.

In the wake of this matter, Views Bangladesh contacted Mohammad Azaz, and he said that the premises turned into ruins on August 5. "As a result, this place is being cleaned. We have plans to do something big here. Something new will be built keeping in mind the victory of Bangladesh and the July Movement."

Responding to the question whether the history of the Liberation War will be predominant in this new establishment, Azaz said: "Everything will be predominant here. The Liberation War will also be the priority and the July Movement as well. Is the July Movement out of the Liberation War? No, it's not. July has come in continuation of the Liberation War."

In response to the question of when the new Monument will be built, he said: "Yes, it will be done very soon. That is why we are clearing the place. Our plan is to do something good."

Earlier on June 25, the seventh corporation meeting of Dhaka North City Corporation decided that a sculpture would be constructed in memory of the July martyrs at the 'Mrityunjayee Pangan'.
