'Donald Lu calls 3 major parties to hold unconditional dialogue'

The US has reportedly called for "dialogue without preconditions" among three major parties – Awami League, the BNP and the Jatiya Party.

In a letter issued on Monday, US Assistant Secretary at the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs Donald Lu – reiterated the importance of "free, fair, impartial, and participatory elections, reported several news outlets.

Jatiya Party Secretary-General Mujibul Haque has confirmed that the party received the letter which was handed over by US Ambassador to Bangladesh Peter Haas.

Contacted, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi told The Business Standard, "We have not received any letter from Donald Lu. When we receive it, we will share the details."

Awami League's Office Secretary Biplop Barau said they, too, had not received such a letter yet.
