Don't waste second chance to form state: Asif Nazrul
Legal Adviser to the interim government Dr. asif Nazrul stated that the opportunity to establish a new state through the student movement must not be squandered. "The July uprising followed the trajectory of the Liberation War."
He made the remarks during a press briefing after paying tribute at the Mirpur Martyred Intellectuals Memorial this morning (December 14).
Asif Nazrul said, "We remember our martyred intellectuals with respect, admiration and love, who fought for freedom, democracy and human rights. We believe that the July uprising followed the path of our 1971 Liberation War."
The legal adviser said, "We saw in the July uprising that our youth, ignoring the illusion of life, fought for democracy, human rights and a society without discrimination. Today, coming to the martyred intellectual memorial, I am reminded of their struggle."
Asif Nazrul said, "In 1971, despite the sacrifices of many people, many martyrs, we failed to build the Bangladesh of our dreams, because of the one-party mentality, because of the failure of one party. May that failure not be repeated."
Asif Nazrul also said, ‘We got a second chance to form a state in exchange for the sacrifices of the youth. May we not waste that opportunity in any way. This is our conviction on this Intellectuals Day.’
Earlier, on Saturday at around 7.00am, first President Md. Shahabuddin, then at 7:15am, Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus paid tribute to the nation’s greatest intellectuals.
