'Doping gang' member hoisted by own petard

A rare and dramatic incident took place on the Khulna-Chilahati-bound Border Express train. A fraudster, Phul Mia, 55, was finally caught in his own trap while trying to rob a mother and daughter by giving them sedative drug-mixed juice.

The incident took place on the train early on Saturday (August 30). Witnesses said that Kaushila Roy, 50, of Pirganj in Thakurgaon and her daughter Bithi Rani, 26, were going from Dinajpur to Saidpur. Phul Mia, a resident of Mithapukur in Rangpur, was sitting next to them. At one stage of their conversation, he offered juice to the mother and daughter. Within a few moments of drinking the juice, both of them fell unconscious. Taking this opportunity, he tried to remove their earrings and nose pins.

However, retired army officer Abdur Rahim, who was sitting next to him, noticed the matter and immediately caught Phul Mia. Later, other passengers also came forward to help. Although he initially denied the allegations, the passengers forced him to drink the juice, and within a few minutes, Phul Mia collapsed on the floor. That's when the real incident became clear.

Upon receiving the information, the railway police reached Syedpur station, rescued the victim mother-daughter and the accused and admitted them to Syedpur Railway Hospital. All three are still unconscious.

Syedpur Railway Police Station OC Mahmud-un Nabi said that a case has been filed on behalf of the victim's family.

He said: "The arrested Phul Mia is a known criminal. There are several cases of robbery in various railway police stations of the country."
