Dr Sayedur Rahman’s resignation, reappointment technical matter: Press Secretary
Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam has explained the resignation and reappointment of Professor Dr Md Sayedur Rahman, special assistant to the Chief Adviser, describing the entire episode as a purely technical matter.
He provided the explanation on Thursday evening, January 1, during a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital.
Speaking about Dr Sayedur Rahman’s appointment, Shafiqul Alam said his initial appointment was made on a lien basis. Dr Rahman had been working at a specific workplace and joined as special assistant after taking lien from there. As the time for his retirement from his regular job arrived, an administrative complication arose.
The press secretary added that under existing rules, an official cannot retire while on lien. As a result, Dr Sayedur Rahman first had to resign from the post of special assistant and return to his previous workplace. After completing the formal retirement process there, he was reappointed as special assistant through a fresh appointment.
Notably, on the same day, January 1, a notification issued by the Cabinet Division appointed Professor Dr Md Sayedur Rahman as special assistant to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare with the rank of state minister. He has also been granted full executive authority of the ministry.
