Dr. Yunus never called me for US deal discussions: Asif Nazrul

Former Law Adviser Dr. Asif Nazrul has stated that he was never involved in discussions on various agreements with the United States, saying such matters did not fall under his responsibility.

In a recent interview with BBC Bangla, Nazrul said economic, banking, and National Board of Revenue-related talks were handled by Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus with selected advisers.

“I was only called in for legal matters, as well as key political and reform issues,” he added.

Responding to questions about allegations of a “kitchen cabinet” within the government, Nazrul said informal advisory groups have always existed in Bangladesh, with only those experts relevant to a specific issue being included in discussions.

He cited examples where advisers with specific expertise were consulted for critical decisions, such as labour law reforms and the draft election law, emphasising that responsibility and input were assigned based on subject-matter relevance.
