Dr Zubaida Rahman returns to London
Dr Zubaida Rahman, wife of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, has left Dhaka for London after spending nearly two weeks by the side of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.
She departed for London around 8:45am on Saturday (December 20) aboard Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight BG-202 from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
Earlier, at 7:10am, she left her father’s residence in Dhanmondi for the airport. Special security arrangements were in place for her motorcade, and family members accompanied her.
According to sources, Dr Zubaida Rahman is scheduled to return to Bangladesh on December 25, four days after arriving in London, along with her husband Tarique Rahman and their daughter, barrister Zaima Rahman. On that day, the BNP Acting Chairman is set to return home with his family after 17 years in exile.
BNP Media Cell member and convener of Amra BNP Poribar Atiqur Rahman Rumon said Dr Zubaida Rahman cared for her mother-in-law like her own mother. He added that her trip to London is part of the preparations for Tarique Rahman’s return to the country.
Referring to the party’s preparations for Tarique Rahman’s homecoming, Rumon said final arrangements are underway at the residence where he and his family will stay. If necessary, he may temporarily reside at his mother’s Gulshan residence, Firoza, until the preparations are completed.
BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia has been undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in the capital for nearly a month. Dr Zubaida Rahman arrived in Bangladesh from the UK on December 5 with the aim of facilitating advanced treatment abroad for her ailing mother-in-law. However, following doctors’ advice that overseas treatment was not feasible, she remained in Dhaka to oversee Khaleda Zia’s medical care. Khaleda Zia’s personal physician has said her condition is currently stable.
