Drink Buriganga water if you crave, but do not take drugs: Nasiruddin Patwary
NCP and 11-party alliance candidate for Dhaka-8 Nasiruddin Patwary said weapons are given to some people and drugs to others during elections, adding that those who feel the urge to consume something should drink Buriganga river water but must not take drugs.
He made the remarks while taking part in a leaflet distribution programme at Daily Bangla intersection in the capital on Tuesday morning, February 3.
Nasiruddin Patwary said he hopes democracy will be established everywhere in Bangladesh and pledged to stand by hawkers associated with the Hawkers’ Association.
Although elections are supposed to be free of money and muscle power, drugs and terrorism have entered the process, he alleged, adding that drug lords would be submerged in Buriganga water.
He said he is optimistic that the 11-party alliance will form the government, as they reject extortion, terrorism and drugs and want a better Bangladesh. He also promised that no one would be allowed to sabotage the election.
Raising allegations of posters and banners being torn down, Patwary said Election Commission rules allow a candidate to install a maximum of 20 billboards, yet a drug lord has put up hundreds. He questioned whether the source of that money was drug trafficking or extortion.
