Driver killed in head-on collision between trucks in Madaripur

A driver was killed and four others were seriously injured in a head-on collision between two trucks on the Dhaka-Barishal highway in Dasar upazila, Madaripur, early Monday morning, June 15.

The deceased was identified as Abu Naim Khan, 35, son of late Abdus Sattar Khan of Kulpaddi area in Madaripur Sadar upazila. He was the driver of one of the trucks involved in the accident.

The accident occurred around dawn near a filling station in the Karnapara area of Baligram union under Dasar upazila.

According to police and local sources, a mini-truck and a large truck collided head-on, severely damaging the mini-truck. Abu Naim Khan died on the spot.

Four others injured in the accident are Juel, 35, driver of the large truck; Sajib, 25, helper; and labourers Amirul, 32, and Lovlu, 30. Locals, along with fire service and police, rescued them and admitted them to Madaripur 250-bed District Hospital.

Fire service and police arrived at the scene and conducted rescue operations. Traffic on the highway was normalised after the damaged vehicles were removed.

Dasar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Solayman Mahmud said legal action is underway.
