Driver sued over 7 killed in Noakhali microbus accident
A case has been filed against the driver in Begumganj, Noakhali, after seven family members were killed when a microbus veered off the road and plunged into a canal.
Driver Enayet Hossain Akbar, the sole accused, is the son of the late Faiz Ahmed of Charchamita area of Hazirpara union of Lakshmipur Sadar upazila.
It is learned that the victims, including Bahar Uddin’s grandmother, mother, wife, daughter, sister-in-law, and nieces, died on the spot when the microbus fell into the canal. Bahar Uddin and several other relatives survived the crash.
Abdur Rahim, the father of Mohammad Bahar Uddin, a relative of the deceased and Omani expatriate, filed the case at Begumganj Police Station around 10.00pm on Friday (August 8).
Relatives claim that the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel, leading to the fatal accident.
Md. Liton Dewan, officer-in-charge (OC) of Begumganj Police Station, confirmed that the case would be transferred to Chandraganj Highway Police Station for further investigation and legal proceedings.
