'Drone panic'during Akheri Munajat, over 100 injured
Over 100 people were injured in a commotion at the Biswa Ijtema ground after a drone fell from the sky, causing panic among the devotees.
The injured were rushed to Shaheed Ahsan Ullah Master General Hospital in Gazipur.
Confirming the incident, Faridul Islam, officer-in-charge of Tongi East Police Station, informed that the sudden fall of the drone in the area adjacent to the Mill Gate of Ijtema venue led to the panic. Devotees rushed towards the exit points, resulting in many people falling to the ground and sustaining injuries.
The situation became normal after Ijtema authorities announced through loudspeakers that there was no reason to panic, as the object was merely a drone.
It was not immediately known how the drone fell or who it belonged to.
Eyewitness Sohel Mia, who came from Uttara, Dhaka, described the chaos, "Suddenly, there was a strong wind, followed by a loud noise. People behind me started pushing and running in panic. I fell to the ground, along with at least 50 others around me."
Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Belayet Hossain, on duty at Tongi Ahsan Ullah Master General Hospital, said that many devotees ran to the hospital in panic. They are being treated there.
