DRU calls for ensuring access of journos to the Secretariat

Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) has protested the government's decision to indefinitely cancel the accreditation cards issued to journalists to enter the Secretariat. At the same time, it called for urgent action to ensure access to journalists.

On Sunday (December 29, 2024), DRU Executive Committee President Abu Saleh Akon and General Secretary Mainul Hasan Sohel said in a statement that the Ministry of Home Affairs had cancelled the access of journalists to the Secretariat until further notice in a press release sent last Friday. However, DRU fears that restricting the access of journalists to the Secretariat, the heart of the administration, will hinder the access of professional journalists to information.

DRU leaders have urged the government to quickly ensure that journalists can travel to the Secretariat without any hindrance and regularly to perform their professional duties.

It is to be noted that the Ministry of Home Affairs has cancelled the access to the Secretariat through accreditation cards issued to journalists until further notice, in view of the security situation at the Secretariat that arose due to the fire incident at the Secretariat on Friday, December 27.
