Drug trader attempts suicide by setting himself on fire inside police station
A man named Ramjan, 38, attempted suicide by pouring kerosene on his body inside the premises of Bandar Police Station in Narayanganj. However, he was rescued and given first aid due to the immediate intervention of the police.
The incident took place at the Bandar Police Station premises on Wednesday (July 15) noon. Ramjan is a resident of the Ekrampur area in Bandar and the son of Habibur Rahman. Police said that there are a total of seven cases, including drug offenses, against him in different police stations.
According to police sources, Ramjan came to the police station premises and attempted suicide by pouring kerosene on his body. Realizing the matter, the duty police officers quickly restrained him. Later, water was poured on his body to provide first aid, and the situation was brought under control.
Bandar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Jamal Uddin said that a dispute had recently arisen between Ramjan and some of his drug-trading associates. Following that dispute, he was threatened with death. It has been initially learned that he attempted to cause such an incident with the intention of forcing action against them.
He further added that although there are seven cases against Ramjan, there is currently no arrest warrant in his name. For this reason, he was not arrested. Necessary legal action is being taken regarding the incident.
