Drydock to run NCT under Navy supervision from today
After 17 years of managing operations at the New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT), Saif Powertech has officially handed over responsibility to Chattogram Drydock Limited (CDDL), a Navy-owned entity.
Starting Monday, CDDL will operate the key terminal at Chattogram Port under the supervision of the Bangladesh Navy.
Although the Navy will oversee operations, the contract has been signed with CDDL due to legal limitations on direct agreements with military entities. The six-month agreement is scheduled to be formalized today, with the terminal handover taking place on the same day.
"This decision has been made in line with the government's directives and was approved at the port authority’s board meeting," said Chattogram Port Secretary Md Omar Faruk. He added that while the Navy will supervise, the technical operations will be conducted by CDDL.
Saif Powertech's Managing Director, Tarafdar Ruhul Amin, confirmed that the company has completed all necessary preparations for a smooth transition. "Though our tenure at NCT ends, our operations at the Chittagong Container Terminal (CCT) will continue under the existing agreement," he stated.
Saif Powertech had been operating the NCT since 2007.
