Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has set up ward-based emergency response teams to address waterlogging issues caused by ongoing heavy rainfall in the city.

According to a DSCC press release, a central control room has been activated to coordinate the efforts. The Bangladesh Meteorological Department reported a low-pressure system over Gangetic West Bengal, leading to cloudy skies and light to moderate rain in Dhaka and neighboring areas. Winds from the southeast or south are expected to blow at 10 to 15 km/h, with rain likely to continue for several days.

In the past 24 hours, Dhaka recorded 45 millimeters of rainfall. To prevent water accumulation, DSCC’s Waste Management Department workers are clearing drains in every ward to ensure smooth water flow.

“Special emergency response teams have been formed in each ward to respond quickly to any waterlogging,” said Md Rasel Rahman, DSCC’s Public Relations Officer. “We urge residents to report any waterlogging or blocked drains immediately.”

DSCC has opened a 24/7 hotline (01709900888) for citizens to report waterlogging incidents and seek assistance.
