DSCC worker shot by assailants in Jatrabari
A Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) worker was shot and wounded by a group of unidentified assailants in the Jatrabari area of the capital late Friday night (June 5).
The victim, Tanzid, 35, who was employed in the city corporation's mosquito eradication programme, was shot in the left leg just below the knee at around 10:30pm near the Sayedabad water pump.
Shortly after, he was rescued from the scene and rushed to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he was admitted at approximately 11:10pm. He is currently receiving treatment.
According to Mamun, a friend of the victim who witnessed the incident, a gang of between 10 and 15 unidentified individuals suddenly descended on Tanzid at the location and launched a coordinated attack. At one point, one of the assailants fired at his leg before the group fled the scene.
Mamun said he could not ascertain the motive behind the attack or identify those responsible.
Inspector Md. Faruk, in-charge of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital Police Camp, confirmed that a gunshot victim had been brought in from the Jatrabari area and was under emergency care. He added that the relevant police station had been notified of the incident.
No arrests have been made so far. The motive remains unknown and the case is under investigation.
