DSCC’s problems will be solved soon: Asif Mahmud
Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, Adviser to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, said that swift action will be taken to address the ongoing issues of Dhaka South City Corporation.
He made these remarks on Thursday (June 19) during the ‘Inauguration of Under-Construction Public Libraries through Upazila Parishads’ event, held in the old conference room of the Cabinet Division at the Secretariat.
Asif Mahmud said, “There are some ongoing issues with Dhaka South City Corporation. We are concerned about the situation. Since public services are being disrupted, we can no longer remain inactive. Necessary steps will be taken very soon.”
Speaking about the dengue outbreak, he said the government is alert. “We will discuss the matter in detail very soon. Despite the ongoing problems in Dhaka South City, we are continuing our work from the outside as much as possible.”
The adviser also mentioned discrimination in infrastructural development across regions. He said, “Due to political vengeance, some areas are being deprived in development efforts. Particularly in the northern regions, poverty and low education rates are more severe. We will give special priority to developing these areas. Initiatives will be taken to build storage facilities and processing zones so that farmers get fair prices. There will also be rehabilitation for those affected by Teesta River erosion.”
“We must ensure that no area receives excessive or insufficient development because of political favoritism. For example, one upazila in Gopalganj has seen major development, while some districts in Rangpur are still far behind in infrastructure,” he added.
The adviser further said, “Even though the interim government is in power for a short time, it has already taken some effective steps for public benefit. With a budget of only Tk23 crore, 44 public libraries are being built in 11 districts. Very soon, a project will be launched to establish libraries in all upazilas. We want to build libraries that attract people spontaneously—not just buildings in name only.”
