DU Confucius Institute to operate as Huawei ICT Academy
The Confucius Institute at the University of Dhaka (CIDU) will operate as a Huawei ICT Academy under a new partnership aimed at equipping students with practical skills in artificial intelligence and emerging technologies.
A memorandum of understanding was signed between CIDU and Huawei South Asia on Monday during the Chinese Enterprise Job Fair held as part of Sino-Bangla Day 2026 at the University of Dhaka.
Huawei South Asia Managing Director for Public Affairs Ma Ben and CIDU Director Dr Yang Hui signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations.
Under the partnership, CIDU students will have free access to Huawei’s online AI training programmes. The courses will cover topics ranging from basic mathematics and artificial intelligence to intelligent cultural computing, AI ethics and applications, practical AI technologies and Huawei’s AI processor development.
The initiative is expected to give students hands-on exposure to emerging technologies while helping them develop skills aligned with international industry standards.
Ma Ben said Huawei was working to strengthen collaboration between industry and educational institutions in Bangladesh’s ICT sector. The partnership, he said, is intended to improve young people’s AI capabilities, prepare them for future employment and encourage their participation in technology-driven development.
Dr Yang Hui said the planned AI courses and opportunities to earn international certifications would complement students’ academic education and provide practical knowledge of modern technologies. The initiative would also encourage students to consider AI as a promising field for future careers, he added.
Huawei ICT Academy operates in countries around the world to strengthen links between universities and the technology industry, helping students bridge the gap between academic learning and workplace requirements.
The partnership was announced alongside the Chinese Enterprise Job Fair, where Huawei also collected CVs from interested students and introduced them to employment opportunities at the company.
