DU deputy registrar handed over to police over ‘i don’t care’ photocard post
Dhaka University DU Deputy Registrar Lavlu Molla Shishir posted a photocard reading “I don’t care” on social media after the International Crimes Tribunal announced death sentences for former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal in a crimes against humanity case.
After outrage spread over the post following the verdict, students detained him late on Monday, November 17, and handed him over to Shahbagh Police Station.
DUCSU Liberation War and Democratic Movements Affairs Secretary Fatema Tasnim Juma wrote on Facebook, “We have handed over Lavlu to the police. Our stance will be the same regarding the teachers involved in genocide. Anyone trying to defend them will also be held accountable. None of us came here for flattery or greed for power. We stand on the blood of 2,000 martyrs, sworn to bring justice. There is no place here for traitors.”
DUCSU Social Services Secretary AB Jubair also wrote on Facebook on the same issue, “The DU deputy registrar who posted in favour of Hasina is caught. Every rat will be dragged out of its hole. Wait.”
Shahbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge Khaled Monsur said several Dhaka University students handed the deputy registrar over to the police. Legal action is being processed.
It is known that last July, two months after the student–public uprising, five DU employees known for their links to the Chhatra League were still working in the vice-chancellor’s office. Later, following accusations from general students, they were transferred to the registrar’s office. One of them is Lavlu Molla Shishir. During his student years, he was president of the Chhatra League unit at Masterda Surya Sen Hall.
