DU forms 3-member probe committee over women harassment at TSC
The Dhaka University (DU) Administration has formed a three-member committee to investigate allegations that two women were harassed at the TSC area.
The move follows the circulation of a video on social media in the early hours of Thursday (February 26).
Proctor Saifuddin Ahmed said CCTV footage is being reviewed, although no evidence was seen of women being struck with sticks.
The video shows one man hitting another man with a helmet, while one female student is heard claiming they were verbally abused and accused of being “prostitutes” by male students near the campus.
The students involved are Dhaka University undergraduates Shahriar Islam Tushar of the Theater and Performance Studies Department (resident at Bijoy Ekattor Hall) and Rakib Ahmed Sohan of the World Religion and Culture Department (resident at Muktijoddha Ziaur Rahman Hall).
However, Shahriar Tushar denied assaulting any female student, saying a scuffle occurred only with two male companions of the women after a verbal dispute.
Following thye incident, the two young men who were with the women during the incident have filed a written complaint with the proctor.
In immediate response, the university administration has said that further action will be taken based on the report of the investigation committee.
