DU scraps quota for FF's grandchildren

The Review Committee formed for the addition and modification of quotas at Dhaka University (DU) has recommended the cancellation of the quota for the grandchildren of freedom fighters in the 2024-25 academic session.

In the first meeting of the committee held on Tuesday (November 5), this recommendation for cancellation was made.

During the meeting, the committee recommended that only the children of freedom fighters should be considered for the Freedom Fighter's Child quota, and that grandchildren of freedom fighters should not be considered for this quota. Furthermore, it was recommended that if any seat remains vacant in any of the designated quotas, the vacant seat should be filled according to the merit list.

Another decision made in the meeting was to implement these recommendations starting from the 2024-25 academic session, in accordance with the decision made in the General Admission Committee's meeting on October 21, 2024. The recommendation includes the suggestion to bring necessary amendments in the admission notice to implement these changes.

Meanwhile, the admission process for undergraduate courses at Dhaka University for the 2024-25 academic session has begun. Online applications started on Monday (November 4) and will continue until 11:59 PM on November 25. The application fee is set at 1,050 BDT. According to the preliminary decision taken at the General Admission Committee meeting, the entrance exams will be held on the following dates: January 4 for the Faculty of Fine Arts, January 25 for the Faculties of Arts, Social Sciences, and Law, February 1 for the Faculty of Science, and February 8 for the Faculty of Business Studies.
