DU suspends Benazir Ahmed's doctorate degree
Dhaka University Administration has suspended the Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) degree of former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed over allegations of irregularities in the admission process.
The decision was made following a detailed discussion at the university's Syndicate meeting, held on July 20. Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Niaz Ahmed Khan confirmed that a fact-finding committee report found Benazir Ahmed had submitted false and misleading information in her admission documents.
According to the report, Benazir did not meet the minimum academic requirements—specifically, 50 percent marks at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels—making her ineligible for admission to the DBA programme under the Faculty of Business Studies. The report further noted discrepancies in the way her educational qualifications were presented.
In response, the university has formed a five-member investigation committee to conduct a thorough review. The committee is headed by Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mamun Ahmed and includes Faculty of Law Dean Professor Dr Mohammad Abu Yusuf, Marketing Department Professor Dr ABM Shahidul Islam, and Registrar Munshi Shams Uddin Ahmed.
The committee has been instructed to submit its final report within 30 working days. Benazir Ahmed’s doctorate degree will remain suspended pending the outcome of the investigation.
