DUCSU Election: Licensed arms also prohibited on DU campus
To ensure security during the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election, a ban has been imposed on carrying any type of firearm within the campus. The directive applies even to licensed firearms. Only law enforcement personnel on duty will be allowed to carry weapons.
The announcement came through a notice signed by Chief Returning Officer Professor Mohammad Jasim Uddin on Monday (September 8).
According to the notice, from September 8 to 10, carrying a licensed firearm within the university area will be treated as a punishable offence.
Earlier, in another announcement issued ahead of the polls, it was stated that from 8pm on Monday until 6am on Wednesday, the university’s seven main entrances will remain closed to the public. However, students, teachers, and staff will be allowed entry upon showing valid identification.
As per the schedule, voting will take place on Tuesday (September 9), from 8am to 4pm across eight centres. Each voter will be able to cast a total of 41 votes, 28 for central union positions and 13 for hall union positions.
This year’s DUCSU election has a total of 39,874 voters, including 18,959 female and 20,915 male students. Against 28 posts, 471 candidates are contesting- 409 men and 62 women.
