Press Secretary Md. Shafiqul Alam has said he is hopeful that the 13th National Parliament elections will take place in a free, fair, and peaceful manner.

“The upcoming national elections will be good, which is reflected in DUCSU,” he said.

He made the remarks during a roundtable discussion titled ‘Expectations and Challenges of Fair Elections’ organized by the Nagorik Coalition at the CIRDAP Auditorium in Dhaka on Thursday (September 11).

Shafiqul Alam emphasized that the government will remain neutral during the elections and that law enforcement agencies will ensure voter safety.

He noted that around 800,000 police, BGB, and Ansar personnel will be deployed for election security.

He also mentioned that the Chief Adviser has announced elections will be held in February, warning that any deviation from this schedule could have serious consequences for the nation.

Stressing the importance of cooperation, he said fair elections require not only the government’s goodwill but also the active participation of political parties and citizens.

Referring to the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) elections as an example, he said, “If everyone fulfills their responsibilities honestly, elections can be conducted in a free, fair, and peaceful manner.”
