Ducsu polls: 6 panels leave publication secretary post vacant in honour of Tonni
Six panels have decided not to nominate anyone in the upcoming Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu) election for the post of Research and Publication Affairs Secretary in honour of Sanjida Ahmed Tonni, who was injured in the 2024 July Uprising.
Tonni will contest independently for the position.
These panel include Bangladesh Chhatra Dal, Gonotantrik Chhatra Sangsad, the ‘protirodh porshod’ of left student organizations, Jamaluddin Muhammad Khalid and Mahin Sarkar’s ‘somonnito shikkharthi sangsad , the ‘oporayeo 71-odommo 24’ of three left student organizations, and the Islami Chhatra Andolan.
Among others, the left-leaning student coalition's full panel "Protirodh Porshad" and the Islami Chhatra Shibir did not leave the post vacant. They fielded their own candidates.
The left alliance nominated Alamgir Hossain for the post.
Tonni submitted her nomination papers to the Election Commission on Tuesday. She will contest the election independently without joining any panel.
She said that the purpose of participating in this post is to increase research opportunities for students, ensure funding, provide access to various journals, improve the quality of research by coordinating with corporates, alumni and NGOs outside the university, and make students interested in research. Her goal is to elevate Dhaka University's research to international standards.
