Fresh initiative has been taken to ensure transparency in the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) elections. The Election Commission has announced that vote counting will be broadcast live on LED screens set up outside each polling centre.

The announcement was made in a press release signed by Professor Dr Md Jasim Uddin, chief returning officer for the DUCSU elections, on Sunday night (September 7).

According to the press release, vote counting for the 2025 DUCSU and hall union polls will be directly displayed on LED screens installed outside every polling centre.

The long-anticipated DUCSU election will be held on September 9. Voting will begin at 8:00am and continue until 4:00pm.

Campaigning officially ended on Sunday (September 7) in line with the electoral code of conduct, which prohibits all forms of campaigning after 11:00pm that night.

In a separate announcement, the Election Commission said voters would not be allowed to carry bags, mobile phones, smartwatches, electronic devices, water bottles or any liquid substances into the polling centres.

For media, the Commission stated that empty ballot boxes would be sealed in front of journalists at around 7:30am on polling day (September 9). Chief Returning Officer Jasim Uddin invited journalists to be present at polling centres at that time.

This year, a total of 471 candidates are contesting for 28 DUCSU posts, including 62 women. About 40,000 students are registered to vote across eight polling centres.
