Earthquake with epicentre in Badda jolts Dhaka again
Another mild earthquake has been felt in Dhaka and surrounding areas within a span of one day.
The tremor was experienced for a few seconds at around 6:06pm on Saturday, November 22.
European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported that the quake measured 3.7 with a depth of 10 kilometres. According to its assessment, the epicentre was 8 kilometres north-east of Dhaka city.
According to the data from the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake measured 4.3 in magnitude. Its epicentre was located 11 kilometres west of Narsingdi town, at a depth of 10 kilometres.
Residents in various parts of the capital also reported feeling mild tremors.
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department stated that the epicentre of the earthquake was in the Badda area of Dhaka. The distance from the Met Office's seismic centre in Agargaon to the epicentre was only 6 kilometres to the east.
Rubaiyat Kabir, an official at the earthquake monitoring centre of the Meteorological Department, said that tremors were felt in Dhaka and several other parts of the country at around 6:06 pm, with a magnitude of 3.7. The epicentre was in Badda, Dhaka Metropolitan Area.
Earlier today, at 10:36am, another tremor was felt, measuring 3.3 on the Richter scale.
Before that, on Friday, November 21, a stronger quake measuring 5.7 was recorded. Its epicentre was in Madhabdi Upazila of Narsingdi, 13 kilometres east of Dhaka. That earthquake killed 10 people, including two children, and injured more than 500.
