Easter Sunday being observed today
The Christian community in Bangladesh is observing Easter Sunday today (April 5) with religious encouragement, joining celebrations held across the globe.
Easter Sunday is the most significant festival in the Christian calendar, marking the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.
According to the New Testament, the event took place on the third day after his crucifixion by the Romans.
On the occasion, leaders of the Protestant Church exchanged greetings with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at his Cabinet Division office at the Bangladesh Secretariat.
Meanwhile, in Vatican City, Pope Leo XIV is set to mark Easter Sunday for the first time as pontiff, with the ongoing Middle East conflict casting a shadow over the most important date in the Christian calendar.
The US-born pope, who has emerged as a prominent voice calling for peace amid the war, is scheduled to lead Mass at St. Peter’s Square from 0830 GMT, in front of thousands of worshippers.
