EC asked to drop Daripalla symbol from two constituency ballots
Jamaat-e-Islami has formally requested the Election Commission (EC) not to include its ‘Daripalla’ (Balance Scale) symbol on ballots for two constituencies in the 13th National Parliament election.
The letter, signed by Jamaat Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar, was sent to Chief Election Commissioner on January 23.
It stated that Jamaat had initially nominated Md. Amzad Hossain for Narsingdi-2 (Constituency 200) and Md. Abu Naser for Chattogram-8 (Constituency 285). However, following a 10-party election alliance agreement, both seats were allocated to National Citizen Party (NCP) candidates.
The letter noted that the Jamaat nominees could not withdraw their nominations in time. In this context, the party requested the EC to ensure the ‘Daripalla’ symbol does not appear on ballots for these two constituencies and urged the commission to take necessary action.
